Stray Birds & Fireflies: Barr Lake Birdlife in Harmony with Poetic Works by R. Tagore
My Summer 2027 Show, Stray Birds and Fireflies, highlights the birdlife of Barr Lake State Park alongside verses from Rabindranath Tagore’s poetic works. The brilliant plumage and varied songs of these neighborhood birds spark my imagination and guide my brush.
Each “Stray Bird” painting is the result of careful research and personal reflection. The bold colors and distilled forms of Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe inform these pieces.
Alongside these works, I present paintings that incorporate lines from Rabindranath Tagore’s poetic works, Fireflies and Stray Birds. These “Fireflies,” or verses, express reflections on life and connection with the world around us. Boris Artzybasheff’s decorative designs that illustrate Tagore’s Fireflies are woven into these visual interpretations.
Through the pairing of local birdlife with Tagore’s timeless poems, Stray Birds and Fireflies invites viewers to see their surroundings as part of a living, poetic conversation between nature, art, music, and literature.
